We Heard the Heartbeat!

Well, it was pretty incredible today when we were getting our ultrasound. We're officially 12 weeks into the pregnancy and had to go to the hospital to get a nuchal translucency ultrasound. This looks at the fluid behind the neck to determine if the baby is at risk of having Down's Syndrome among other things. They said the baby looks fine and everything is measuring normal! The crown to rump length is 6.1 cm which is about 2 1/2 inches. Exactly where it should be! When she finished taking pictures of the baby, we were able to hear the heartbeat for the first time! That combined with my growing stomach has really made this feel real. It's hard to describe what the heartbeat sounded like other than saying it was incredible!

The baby and I have been very busy lately. We started off the month with a trip to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. We were very happy to have the 8 week ultrasound when we got home to see that the baby survived Mardi Gras! Probably more than a lot of people can say. Last weekend we spent a girl's weekend in NYC with Grandma Suzie and Aunt Meghan...maybe that means we have a little girl on the way... We ate at fabulous restaurants and did the Sex and the City bus tour, which was amazing! If this is a little girl, than I'm sure we'll have many more weekends like this; if it's a boy, than he'll stay home with dad. :)

Here are our ultrasound pictures from today. In the third and fourth ones you can see the baby's long legs that are kicking around. I'm in love with the cute little nose in the first one!

I know it's been a while since we updated, we'll get better! We go to the doctor on Tuesday, so I'm sure we'll have more to say after that. I'll put up a picture of my growing belly then. :)

Baby on the Way!

Well, it's official, Ryan and I are expecting a baby! The baby will be arriving September 12, 2008, and, yes, that is when we will find out if it's a baby girl or baby boy. We have been to the doctor for two ultrasounds so far, one at 6 weeks and one at 8 weeks. The baby went from a small dot to a person with a head, arms, and legs. It's pretty incredible to see the changes in just 2 weeks!

Ryan and I are both incredibly excited and we will keep you all posted with the many changes we will be experiencing over the next 7 months.

4 Weeks 8 Weeks

Our little dot of a baby at 6 weeks.

8 1/2 Weeks: The head is at the bottom, and it's hard to see, but there are arms and legs there!
